With winter just around the corner, now is the time to make sure that your plumbing is in tip top shape and ready for the cooler months ahead. We are lucky in Auckland: whether you’re in Auckland Central, the North Shore or Waitakere, we are blessed with fairly mild winters, but there are still a number checks to do in and around your house when it comes to your plumbing.
Fix any Leaks
If you have any leaky pipes, not only are you wasting precious water, but you are also allowing cold outdoor air to seep into your home. With our NZ houses built as they are for warm summers and mild winters, any extra cold air getting inside will quickly be noticed, making it harder to warm the house and keep it warm. The last thing you want is to wake up to a house that is almost as cold inside as it is outdoors! The best remedy is to get a plumber from a reputable company to check your pipes and fix any leaks before winter sets in.
Check your Hot Water Heater
You don’t want your hot water heater to suddenly break down – especially not while enjoying a nice hot shower in July – so make sure to check that it’s working properly ahead of time. Because water is sitting at a colder temperature in the winter, it will take your water heater more time to heat it up. If you want to keep your power bill down during the winter, it’s a good idea to fully flush out your water heater ahead of winter.
We can be so concerned with keeping the plumbing inside of our homes functioning that we neglect the outdoors. Check your spouting – or enlist the services of a professional plumber – to make sure there’s no build up which will end up causing leaks. And take a look at your storm water drains: with all the extra rain we get in Auckland during winter, backed up drains can lead to flooding.
Get a Plumbing Service
If you lived through a cold, damp house last winter, or if you simply want to check your plumbing to make sure you’ll be dry and warm this year, give the plumbers at Auckland Plumbing and Roofing a call. We can give your house a once-over to make sure that it is ready for winter and suggest any upkeep or touch up services that need to be done to make this time of year more comfortable.
